Leone Stars began their campaign to qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations by losing to their host Sao Tome & Principe by 2 goals to one on Wednesday.
Alhaji Kamara gave the Leone Stars the lead from a 55th-minute corner, but a penalty from Jair Nunes and a late error from Sierra Leonean goalkeeper Christian Caulker handed the tiny islanders a famous upset.
However, Leone Stars played without several first choice players, some because of injuries and other due to other reasons.
These players are the injured trio of Celtic striker Mohamed ‘Poborsky’ Bangura, Rodney Strasser of AC Milan in Italy and Leone Stars captain defender Ibrahim ‘Obrey’ Kargbo who is playing in Azerbaijan for FK Baku.
